We aim to facilitate the development and enjoyment of all sport and sports infrastructure in Twizel.
Sport Twizel is a new 'umbrella' organisation established in June 2016 to provide support in the areas of strategic, governance, and facilities development for all sports clubs in Twizel. Our formal identity is the Twizel Sports Development Board.
As well as aiming to help strengthen individual Twizel sports clubs, we provide coordination of the needs of the different sports. We attempt to identify as many commonalities as possible between sports to present a strong and unified pitch to the Twizel Community Board, Mackenzie District Council, and funding bodies as we seek to improve the facilities in town and in the district at large for the benefit of all sports supporters and participants.
VAN BOOKING CALENDAR
JUNIOR ALL BLACKS RUGBY
The Junior All Blacks (JAB) based in Twizel are part of the Mackenzie Rugby Club. The group is run by a dedicated club of local parents and some equally dedicated and enthusiastic players.
The teams play every Saturday and travel to Fairlie for the first half of the season to play, and to various hosting towns around South Canterbury in the latter half of the season. Fuel vouchers are available for parents driving the players and the use of the Twizel Area School van is offered as well for travel to the games.
In previous years, Twizel has had enough players for their own team, playing in the South Canterbury draw. This year, the kids of Twizel are playing for Mackenzie Rugby Club, with the Under 8s playing ripper rugby and the older kids playing tackle rugby.
With new grass recently sown on the Twizel Sports Field and new rugby equipment and and scrum machine for practicing, Twizel JAB will continue to grow.
